About the Ilkeston Theatre Company
Ilkeston Theatre Company was formed in 1988, following a discussion one evening between Peter Smith & Nick Duncan.
At the time, the majority of local Amateur Theatre/Musical Societies required singing and acting auditions to be undertaken before any prospective candidate could become a member, but it was obvious that there many people had a passion to be on stage, but didn’t have the necessary skills.
The Ilkeston Theatre Company was therefore formed with the sole aim of giving an opportunity to any person who had this passion, but did not have the skills or confidence to undertake auditions in these areas.
This principal is still maintained in Ilkeston Theatre Company. If you are keen, then you are accepted, and taught the rudiments of acting by the director/producer.
Most of the people you see in our shows have never acted or sung in public before they joined!
In order to produce two shows a year, a show in May, and a pantomime in December, a large amount of money is required. The basic cost of each show is around £3000; throughout the year Ilkeston Theatre Company members raise money at local Carnivals and concerts to help with the production costs.
If you have the passion to be on stage or to help backstage in various capacities, or you would like to sponsor the Company in any way please get in touch with our Secretary Angie on 07821 753761
